Consumer convenience or unhygienic nuisance? Pembroke Pines is debating whether to become the first in South Florida to ban all the ice cream trucks, hot dog vendors and street merchants who sell their wares in suburban neighborhoods or at busy intersections.
City Commissioner Angelo Castillo says residents are fed up with the sidewalk food carts, lunch vans and especially the street-corner hawkers and beggars who approach cars at stoplights. These people are “changing the character of our community,” Castillo said. The city attorney is drafting a law to stop them.
