Security changes are coming to Lower Manhattan. Cars and trucks headed toward the World Trade Center will soon have to go through security checkpoints. The new security measures are intended to stop an attack at the newly constructed WTC site.
NYPD’s plan would include checkpoints for cabs, trucks and cars. Police say they’re necessary to provide safety, but some neighbors have concerns.
Community Board 1 chair Julie Menin said so far the plan has not been well received by many residents of the Lower Manhattan neighborhood.
Residents and business owners plan to voice complaints at a public hearing on Wednesday.
