Captain of Costa Concordia cruise ship that crashed into Italian reef went to court on Monday to hear evidence against him, in front of hundreds of passengers who survived the shipwreck and families of the people died.
Francesco Schettino’s big interest was such, that a theater had to become a courtroom in the Tuscan City of Grosseto. The claim was closed-door.
Schettino returned to Tuscany to, in his own words, ‘Face his accusers’. During the following days, he and eight other people accused will notice if they will face charges over the deaths of 32 people after his ship run aground off Giglio island, this past Jan 13. Schettino is accused of manslaughter, causing the shipwreck, and abandoning ship while passengers and crew were still aboard. He denied this accusations and has not been charged.
