A large flight display at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Intl. Airport toppled over a 10 year old boy, injuring three other people on Friday.
The airport had been on remodeling and opened only a few weeks ago. The 300 pound flight status board had to be lift by six bystanders.
The boy was taken to Children’s of Alabama Hospital, and was later pronounced dead. His mother is in critical condition, and his two other brothers have several injuries, but they’re not life threatening.
Authorities at the airport said they’re investigating the causes of this accident and have secured the site.
The family of the affected have been assisted by orders of the Mayor William Bell in ‘their time of need’.
