Alabama Airport Sign Falls And Kills 10 Year Old Boy

A large flight display at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Intl. Airport toppled over a 10 year old boy, injuring three other people on Friday.

The airport had been on remodeling and opened only a few weeks ago. The 300 pound flight status board had to be lift by six bystanders.

The boy was taken to Children’s of Alabama Hospital, and was later pronounced dead. His mother is in critical condition, and his two other brothers have several injuries, but they’re not life threatening.

Authorities at the airport said they’re investigating the causes of this accident and have secured the site.

The family of the affected have been assisted by orders of the Mayor William Bell in ‘their time of need’.

Boy Shot By Fellow Student At Georgia School Thursday

A student opened fire at middle school and wounded a 14 year old in the neck at around 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon in Atlanta, Georgia.

It is believed that the shooting was not random and something occurred between the two students. An armed officer who was off-duty was able to get the gun away, and the wounded boy was taken Grady Memorial Hospital and dispatched Thursday night.

A crowd of anxious parents gathered in the streets awaiting word of their children after they noticed about the situation. Emergency procedures were followed according to protocol and students were kept at the locked down school for more than two hours before being dismissed.

Gun violence in and around our schools is simply unconscionable and must end,” Reed said. “Too many young people are being harmed, and too many families are suffering from unimaginable and unnecessary grief.”, said Mayor Kasim Reed.

Mexico City Explosion Kills 25, Leaves 100 Others Wounded

25 people died and at least 100 others were injured when a great explosion at the the headquarters of Pemex, in Mexico City occurred.

The explosion was reported to be in the basement garage of the auxiliary building, a busy commercial and residential area just before 4 p.m and next to Petroleos Mexicanos’ 52-story tower. The skyscraper complex was immediately visited by Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto to supervise rescue activities.

At least 30 people remained trapped in the debris while rescue dogs were sent to look for them. “It shook the building, and then we were evacuated”, said a man who was on the ground floor.

“An explosion took place in the B2 building of the administrative center,”/”Regrettably, they have confirmed 14 people dead and 80 injured.”, Pemex tweeted yesterday. Today, Mexican authorities confirmed 25 people dead and 101 other were injured.

Pemex first said they were evacuating because there was an electricity problem, then it said there was an explosion but the problem was not determined.

Most of the people injured were treated at local hospitals with broken bones, sources said.

Director General of Pemex, Emilio Lozoya Austin extended his condolences to all the families of the workers who have lost their loved ones at this accident.

Big Twister Hits Georgia City; Thousands Affected SouthEast

A big tornado ripped through Adairsville, Georgia, overturned cars and killed at least 1, damaging several buildings in the area and leaving at least 12,000 people without power statewide.

The local hospital received 7 people with injuries from the storm. The man killed was inside his mobile home in Bartow County.

Tornado warnings were issued from Tennessee to northern and western Georgia until Wednesday afternoon.

A 47 year old man was also killed in Tennessee after a tree fell on a shed he was in, the local fire department said.

In Memphis, TN, more than 13,000 families lost power as winds took down power lines.

Newtown, CT Elementary School Massacre; 27 Dead

A 24 year old man clad in black and carrying 4 weapons shot up an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut on Friday and leaving 20 children and 7 adults dead. Officials said it’s one of the worst school massacres in the nation’s history.

FBI, along with dozens of emergency vehicles raced to the school after the shooting began at around 9:30, moving a massive police team including SWAT officers that checked room by room searching for victims, most of the under the age of 10 and were in a kindergarten classroom.

Gunman was 24 years old from CT, and was found dead, while a second person is now in custody for a possible connection to the shooting.

A panicked parent said it was ‘the most terrifying moment a parent can imagine’.

We still don’t know the motive of the shooting and the gunman’s name was not released at this hour.
