BlackBerry Hosts Launch Party in NYC

BlackBerry goes on sale in the United States tomorrow Friday, after a delay of nearly two months since it was first presented. Apple and Samsung Electronics are ahead of RIM in market share and sales, that’s why RIM made a commercial for the Super Bowl and have been hosting parties with artists in Austin and Los Angeles, not to mention they plastered billboards  and newspapers showing off their new phone.

AT&T will begin selling the BlackBerry Z10 for almost the same price as the iPhone 5 and Samsung’s Galaxy SIII, making those devices the main competence. Apple sold 5 million phones the first weekend they were available last year, and Samsung shipped 10 million of their SIII model in the first two months of sale.

RIM’s smartphone market has fallen from 50% in 2009, to 5.9% this year, according to comScore, that’s why they’re spending more money than they did on previous launches. Tonight, singer Janelle Monae is performing in RIM’s Z10 party held in New York City.

Z10 is already on sale in the U.K. and India.

North America Expects Warm Spring

Heat will soon make its entrance to most of North America, as specialists say we will experience  above average temperatures over the new season.

It is expected to be drier than other springs, specifically in the West and Southwest, including Texas. At the same time, flooding is likely to happen in a variety of regions, like North Dakota, and the Mississippi area, and could be worsen by the early melting of the winter snow.

“This spring’s outlook is a mixed bag of drought, flooding and warm weather”, a specialist said.

Drought and increasing temperatures could create fire in the Southwest, like Oklahoma, where wildfires have already been seen, and the state of Florida.

So, although it is still cold in the north, spring will soon rise the temperatures.

Amtrak Derailment In Connecticut Causes Suspension Of Service In The Tri-State

Amtrak service has been suspended in the busy New York-Boston corridor due to a derailment in New Haven, Connecticut.

New York – Washington service has not been suspended, making the Springfield, Massachusetts shuttle operate as scheduled.

Passengers who opt to not travel due to the service interruption will receive a full refund or another trip voucher. Go to or use the Amtrak Mobile App to modify or cancel your tickets.

Magnitude 8.0 Earthquake Stucks Off Solomon Islands; Causes Two Tsunamis

Powerful magnitude 8.0 earthquake struck off the Solomon Islands in the Pacific, shortly after 1 am GMT, and causing two tsunamis that killed at least 5 people and damaged more than 80 properties in the area. Tsunami was about 1.5 metres.

The center of the earthquake was off the Santa Cruz Islands, part of the Solomon Islands, north-east of Australia.


Tsunami warnings were issued in Australia, Hawaii and the places around but were soon cancelled, as citizens had gone to higher ground.

Strong aftershocks were recorded, ranging from strength from magnitude 5.6 to 6.4.

Late Saturday Nightclub Fire in Brazil Kills More Than 200

At least 233 people died and 92 are still missing in late Saturday tragedy inside a nightclub at the Kiss club in the university town of Santa Maria, in Brazil.

At approximately 2am local time Sunday, a pyrotechnic display set fire to the ceiling and started a big fire that killed dozens and other dozens were trapped in the panic of the confusion.

Approximately 50 funerals were expected to take place today at the local cemetery of Santa Maria which opened at early 7:30am local, where half-hour intervals were scheduled.

Night Club owner and two members of the band were arrested by police that are investigating the blaze. Police inspector said arrests were ‘provisional’ and there’s no criminal accusation at this time.

According to some sources, firefighters were struggling to get inside the building due to a ‘barrier of bodies’ blocking the entrance. Survivors told local news that security guards tried to prevent people from getting outside the building, fearing that people would leave without paying their tab.

January 28, 1986

Late January is a time for mourning and remembering for NASA. January 28 is the day the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded upon takeoff.


The Challenger  carried seven people on board, including the first teacher involved in a space mission.

Challenger disintegrated in the sky just 73 seconds into its flight. The crew died as Challenger exploded in flames while their families watched at Cape Canaveral and millions of others watched via television.
